How does workplace charging impact employee productivity?
Workplace charging can positively impact employee productivity in several ways:
- Reduces "range anxiety," allowing employees to focus on work rather than worrying about charging
- Eliminates the need for employees to make separate trips to charging stations before or after work
- Can attract and retain employees, potentially reducing turnover and associated costs
- Demonstrates company values, potentially boosting employee morale and engagement
What’s the typical return on investment for an employer? Will it cost us to pay for electricity?
Our preferred business model is for Chargermate to own and operate the charging stations, with drivers paying us when they decide to charge their vehicles. This means we cover the installation costs and ongoing costs such as for electricity.

Here's why this model works well:
- No upfront capital expenditure for your company. Minimal operational overhead for your organization
- Ensures professional maintenance and management of charging infrastructure
- Allows for easy scalability as demand grows
- Provides a valuable amenity without ongoing costs to your company

What if our company does not own the building and we have a landlord?
We are happy to discuss EV charging installation directly with your landlord and have successfully done this around Chicago. This has worked particularly well for office parks with multiple companies using the same parking facilities.

Here's why it typically works:
- Landlords are often open to EV charging as it can increase property value
- It's a simple amenity to add that can attract and retain tenants, and is more cost effective than many other options
- Landlords and tenants use the installation as part of lease renewal discussions

We can handle all aspects of installation, operation, and maintenance, minimizing landlord involvement
What data can we collect from workplace charging to support our sustainability reporting?
We are happy to share non-identifying data for sustainability reports, CSR initiatives, and green certifications.

Our modern EV charging systems can provide valuable data on:
- CO2 emissions avoided
- Total kWh dispensed
- Number of unique users
- Charging session durations and frequencies
- Peak usage times
Can workplace charging be integrated with other employee benefits programs?
Offering EV charging as a building amenity is often the best fit for employers as not everyone has an electric vehicle.

However, we have seen workplace charging integrated with other benefits such as:
- Offering charging credits as performance incentives
- Integrating with wellness programs
- Using it to complement other initiatives like carpooling or bike-to-work programs
How can we ensure fair access to charging stations among employees?
Drivers are typically accustomed to charging etiquette and following norms, so managing workplace charging shouldn't be much different. We also have policy templates which we can share for you to implement.

In addition, our software allows us to ensure fair access by adjusting items such as:
- Implementing a reservation system
- Setting time limits for charging sessions
- Offering different pricing for peak and off-peak hours
How does the charging payment process work for employees?
We tend to recommend that EV drivers pay us directly, and no payments go through employers.

Our two most common approaches of payment are:
- Pay-per-kHW with employees using a QR code on the charger or our app
- Subscription model where employees pay a monthly fee and have either discounted or unlimited charging

There are several other options which can be discussed if they are a best fit for your company such as:
- Free charging as an employee benefit
- Integration with payroll for automatic deductions
Will the EV charge points work with every electric vehicle?
Yes, we use industry standard software and hardware so that our charge points work with the vast majority of electric vehicles in the US. Our Level 2 chargers use the J1772 connector, which is standard for most EVs in North America. For Tesla vehicles, an adapter can be used (which most Tesla owners already have).

Over the course of the next year, we will be transitioning to the North American Charging Standard (NACS), as it has been adopted by all large automakers in the US from 2025 onwards.
